Who is Nijmegen for Palestine?
Nijmegen for Palestine is a group of people from Nijmegen dedicated to the cause of Gaza and Palestine.
We organize demonstrations and actions in the city, keeping the issue visible as long as the situation remains unchanged.
Our history
We began protesting in Nijmegen in July 2023. We have held over 250 actions to date.
For instance, for more than 50 consecutive weeks, we gathered at Nijmegen Central Station or marched through the city, before switching to a regular monthly gathering—less frequent,
but carrying the same message. In addition, we organize activities such as leaflet campaigns, film nights, and fundraisers, and a vigil is held every last Saturday of the
month by
Mensen in het Zwart (People in Black). We also support
Nijmegen Student Encampment, a group of Radboud University students campaigning for a university free of ties to Israel.
In July 2024, we took action during the
Vierdaagse (Four Days Marches). About twenty people demonstrated on Coehoornstraat—where participants pass by after finishing—displaying banners
and chanting "Free, free Palestine." We also deployed observers along the route that day, as the
Vierdaagse organization had not implemented a ban on participants holding Israeli passports.
Why we do this
Our actions do not stand in isolation. They are part of how we in Nijmegen demonstrate that the situation in Gaza and Palestine remains a priority for us,
even when it briefly drops out of the news cycle. If you would like to know what you can do, please check our schedule or send us an email.
